Red Stag

Common throughout New Zealand, smaller in structure but related to Wapiti (Elk). Puts on an aggressive display during their rut and very vocal with a roar like call from late March to late April. Some males produce huge thick beams with many points, but a good stag could be anything over 12 points. Best hunted late February to August.

Himilayan Tahr

New Zealand’s largest alpine trophy, a broad shouldered, huge shaggy maned mountain goat with thick short horns. The striking appearance of the contrast in colour between the blond mane and black rear makes for an excellent life size mount. A tough animal surviving the harshest of alpine winters. Can be hunted all year.

Alpine Chamois

A fine featured nimble footed antelope with short vertical hooked horns. Has uncanny eyesight with a speedy retreat. Comes in two distinct colours, tan in summer and black in winter. Best hunted January to late August.

Fallow Deer

Coloured from black to red, some even are all white. Features palmed antlers and becomes a ruthless fighter during their rut of April and early May. Best hunted March to August.

Wapiti

Wapiti or Elk

The bugle is from mid March to late April, more laid back than the Red stag but its larger size helps determine prominence. Grand antlers better than 6×6 common. Best hunted March to August.

Arapawa Ram

Arapawa Ram

A black fleeced wild sheep with curled black horns. Very little exact information is known as to what part of Europe they originated, however they landed on New Zealand’s out lying islands from the earliest of the whalers and sealers. Hunted all year.

Can come in many colours, good mature billies sport wide spiraled horns. Hunted all year.

Wild Boar

Sika stag, Whitetail stag, Wallaby, Hare, Rabbit and game birds, mainly Paradise and Mallard duck, Canadian geese and Black swan are available.
