Kiwi Wilderness Safaris offer three types of New Zealand hunts to trophy hunters
Exclusive Private Land Hunts
These exclusive private land hunts have clean private comfortable accommodations. We have access to properties that will have the potential to gain a very high standard of success and trophy size. In fact too date with this hunt we have been 100% with ninety nine percent of the hunters, and this maybe due to some of these facts.
– we do not hunt more than one hunter or organized group of hunters on a property at one time
– we do not take on the larger group size without having first class hunters as guides
– we are flexible at moving hunts away from severe weather areas
– we have selected terrain for this hunt that is not overly adventurous or dangerous, as some hunters in their later mature years have been able to obtain a brilliant result
– we have been doing this now for 30 years full time.
Red and Fallow stag are hunted on the less formidable mountains as often these species reside a huge amount of their time in thick scrub or established forest, both these covered vegetated areas are usually in the lower mountain slopes. Himalayan Tahr and Alpine Chamois on the other hand are true alpine animals that prefer the use of more open high country. A hunter would need be a fair shot, however we have the use of some 4WD tracking that often can close the gap to a reasonable walking distance. In most cases during these hunts a non hunting companion will make the grade and watch the action.
Best months: March to late July. The March, April and May temperatures usually range 5-20oC, no snow is normally evident. June and July the night temperatures will often drop below freezing though the day is frequently sunny with above freezing figures.
Clothing and equipment: Good comfortable boots, free fitting warm layers with warm jacket. Rain gear is advised. Camo and soft olive greens work best. We have a range of client firearms for free use.

High Country Hunts
Over the years of guiding and personal hunting there has been accumulated many lucrative areas that match this hunt. We take hunting to another level here, though most the land we engage is still private, but on some exceptions we hunt the concession land, especially for the Alpine game Tahr and Chamois. With this in mind we like the hunter to be in good shape to enjoy a full days stalk. If bringing your own firearm it should not be heavy, and one should feel comfortable at ranges exceeding 200 yards/meters.
The price list notes the Red stag in several grades, bronze, silver and not often sighted, the gold medal. Many of these trophies in this hunt are pursued off the beaten track, so the home comforts of private serviced accommodations is sometimes compromised. Though we choose suitable tidy and clean places to stop over, some farm cabins or alpine cabins interspersed with serviced accommodation is normal. We will supply clean sleeping bags if cabins do not have appropriate bedding.
4WD transport is the common form, though one or two hunts a year do warrant helicopter travel.

Spring/Summer Hunting
Spring and Summer Hunts.
Himalayan Tahr and Alpine Chamois are my main hunted trophies during these periods. Ask Peter about the great deal there is on offer. Excellent for the new trophy hunter or just the experience of it all at a good price.
Spring months of October to December, summer months, January to March. As with most seasonal weather the enthusiast must be prepared. In the spring hunts mother nature has not quite made her mind at which to entertain us with, could be warm and sunny or overcast and cool. Summer is definitely warmer, the sun has really got a bite in clear skies. But as always there are exceptions, and with a little rain the temperature can often plummet into single figures Celsius.
